Two men Waisele Naturu and Ronald Chand who admitted to cultivating marijuana were sentenced to 8 and a half years and 10 years respectively by the Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Paul Madigan today.

The High court heard that police had uprooted 2335 plants of marijuana from a farm near Namoli Village Sigatoka six years ago.

Justice Paul Madigan said that this is obviously a massive amount and nothing of the like had ever been before the courts in this country before.

Justice Madigan said that the plants after analysis were found to be cannabis with a total weight of 455 kilograms, adding that cultivation of marijuana is an ever growing problem in Fiji.

He also said that it provided not only a quick and easy money to the farmers but also a quick and easy route to despair and destruction for Fiji youth's.
