Beniamino Maravu has chosen rugby over athletics in the upcoming Pacific Mini Games.

In an exclusive interview with Fijivillage from Savusavu, the 19-year-old Coca Cola Games sprint champ told us that he has given it enough thought and his family’s welfare comes first.

Maravu said his father passed away in 2011 and he is the only one looking after the family which includes his mother and six younger siblings.

Maravu added that athletics has done so much for him over the years but he has to think about his future.

Maravu was included in the athletics squad for the Pacific Mini Games before being named in the Fiji 7s team earlier this week.

Athletics Coach to the Mini Games Gabriel Qoro has said if Maravu does not turn up tomorrow at the first time trials at the ANZ Stadium then he is expected to be replaced by either Jacob Waqanivalu, Lepani Naivalu or Aaron Powell.

The Pacific Mini Games will be held in Wallis and Futuna in September.
