Mara’s arrest warrant execution extended, Driti’s lawyer wants full disclosures
Chief Magistrate, Usaia Ratuvili granted the extension after the DPP, Aiyesha Jinasena told the Magistrates Court today that the arrest warrant is yet to be executed.
Mara's lawyer, Devinesh Sharma who was in court today did not object to it.
Mara who has escaped to Tonga was bailed to appear in court today.
He faces one count of uttering seditious comments under Section 67 of the Crimes Decree.
Meanwhile former Land Force Commander, Pita Driti appeared before Suva Magistrate Alofa Seruvatu in the last hour.
Driti is facing two counts of uttering seditious comments and one count of inciting mutiny.
The DPP wants the case transferred to the High Court.
However Driti's lawyer, Filimoni Vosarogo said they want the full disclosures before the case proceeds further.
Vosarogo said they want the evidence that the DPP proposes to call against the accused.
Vosarogo said at this stage, they only have a two page document.
Magistrate Seruvatu has given the state two weeks to file the full disclosures. The case will be called again on the 22nd of this month.
