Manual launched on disciplining children
The manual launched simultaneously today in a number of other countries is compiled by Dr. Joan Durrant and highlights best practices and guidelines for parents, guardians and anyone associated with children on how to deal with children and their needs at various stages of childhood.
The manual outlines the need for adults to understand how children think and feel and comprehend through rational means why a child does something or reacts in a certain way before they are punished or stopped from doing something.
Save the Children Fiji's Lynette Petueli said this will empower parents and guardians to use non violent, solution focused, respectful means of disciplining a child and allows parents to map out long term goals for their children and a life without being subject to physical violence.
Petueli said they hope the manual will help reduce all forms of corporal punishment against children and in turn amongst our generations to come.
The manual is available for free from Save the Children Fiji Offices.
