The National Fire Authority (NFA) is working with Labasa police to investigate the death of a 51 year old man who died in a house fire earlier this week.
Divisional Fire Officer Northern John Pillay said the deceased was staying in a settlement outside Labasa.
He said the NFA was not informed or called to put out the fire which occurred on Monday.
They were informed by neighbors yesterday and an official investigation is now underway.
Pillay said the initial report indicates that 10 people were living in the house.
However, they are receiving contradictory statements from the family members.
Police spokeswoman Ema Mua when contacted this morning said that she will look into the report and will comment soon.
