An active student who lost his eyesight at the age of 17 in 1981 after getting hurt while playing rugby and falling off a cliff is now a successful father, grandfather and the Chief Executive Officer of the Pacific disability Forum.
45 year old Setareki Macanawai said being disabled in anyway does not mean that one loses hope, but one should still stride forward and try to achieve the goals set in life as nothing is impossible.
Macanawai said he got a lot of support.
Macanawai said he has also faced many difficulties after losing his eyesight however it did not stop him from getting what he wanted from life.
Macanawai has a Masters in Educational Administration from Australia and has won the Residential Scholar Award from the University of Tennessee in 1994, Faculty Award from University of England in Australia in 1999, Kazuo Itoga Memorial Foundation Award from Japan in 2002, 4th Pacific Human Right Award of the Regional Rights Resource Team in 2004 and 2008 Pacific Human Rights Award.
