A 39 year old financial controller who defrauded his company of more than $1 million will spend the next six years behind bars.

The court heard that Chirk King Yam who was employed as the financial controller at Warwick Fiji resort and Spa forged more than 50 company cheques and paid into his own account, his wife’s account and his private company Greenways Limited from August 2005 to March 2007.

Yam is charged with five counts of larceny by servant, forgery and causing payment of funds by virtue of a forged document.

Lautoka High Court Judge Justice Paul Madigan said that Yam brought unthinkable disaster on the heads of his entire family however, he must serve a term of imprisonment that society would expect for theft of such an enormous sum of money.
