Man sentenced to 12 years imprisonment
These were the words of High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar while sentencing 31 year old Saimoni Rokotunidau to 12 years imprisonment this morning.
Rokotunidau was convicted of 31 counts of robbery with violence, larceny, criminal intimidation and receiving stolen property.
Justice Goundar sentenced Rokotunidau to 12 years with a non parole of 9 years.
In mitigation, Rokotunidau told the court that he had assisted Police officers in recovering missing weapons which went missing in the 2000 coup. Rokotunidau said he is married with three children and has pleaded guilty to eight charges.
However, Justice Goundar said high degree of training was done before the actual robbery took place and that Rokotunidau had committed these offences while being a Police officer. The offences took place between 2003 and last year.
