A 39 year old man who raped his niece was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment by the Labasa High Court today.
The court heard that the 39 year old followed his 11 year old niece from school one day and raped her.
In mitigation he told the court that he is single and living with his brother=s family.
Judge Justice Priyantha Fernando while sentencing said this cannot be considered as a mitigating factor and that he was the uncle of the victim and significant trust was placed upon him, and his niece expected safety and security from him but he breached that trust.
