A 24 year old man who was involved in a robbery four years ago was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment by the Suva High Court this morning.
The court heard that on 24th April 2006, Petaia Vuli entered the house of an elderly couple, along with a group of men, threatened the 70-year-old owner of the house and struck the victim's 44-year-old wife with a knife.
Vuli and the others ransacked the house and walked away with $2,646 worth of items.
In mitigation Vuli told the court that he was 24 years old and separated from his wife, has two daughters aged 3 and 4 years and is remorseful.
Judge Justice Daniel Goundar said that the victims were seriously injured, some of the stolen items were recovered and that Vuli's guilty plea came late.
He was sentenced to five years.
