The 32yr old man who allegedly raped a 22yr old school teacher over the weekend has been remanded in custody.

Ilisoni Uqadavui of Lautoka appeared in the Lautoka Magistrates Court charged with one count of rape.

No plea was taken and the matter has been adjourned to the 14th of this month.

The alleged incident took place in a settlement outside Lautoka city.

The teacher attended her school management party on Friday night and took off to a night club later with some friends.

It is alleged that teacher on her way back to her home, was confronted by Uqadavui who took her to a cassava patch and allegedly raped her.

Meanwhile, police are waiting for the report from the Koronivia Research station on the uprooted plants from Navosa which are believed to be marijuana.

The Police Drug Unit had uprooted $125.3 million dollars worth of Marijuana plants in Navosa last week and they also recovered $24,315 cash from a 27yr old farmer which was hidden in the highlands.

Assistant Police Spokesperson, Sergeant Atunaisa Sokomuri said a number of people have been questioned.
