The 27-year-old unemployed man who allegedly assaulted a police officer has been remanded in custody by the Suva Magistrates Court.
Vetaia Nacagica of Lami is charged with 2 counts of Act with Intent to cause serious bodily harm, and one count of serious assault.
Nacagica allegedly struck the police officer twice with a cane knife on New Year's Day and fled.
He was also allegedly resisting arrest.
He was apprehended three days later.
Magistrate Seini Puamau noted that Nacagica had a bandage around his head and that the prosecutor made no admissions.
The matter has been transferred to the Suva High Court and has been adjourned to the 22nd of January.
