A man who perished in a house fire last night along Edinburgh drive has been identified by his son.

Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro said the 55-year-old is a self employed man who was alone at home at the time of the tragic incident.

Fijivillage visited the scene this morning as the forensic officers were trying to remove the body out of the completely destroyed house.

The fire had spread to a nearby house and destroyed it which was vacant at that time.

A neighbor, 19-year-old Vivek Vikash who has lost all his belongings in the fire said one house was occupied by him and his father while the other house was owned by the man believed to be in his 50s.

The cost of the damage is estimated to be $20,000.
 
Meanwhile, National Fire Authority Chief Executive Officer, John O’ Connor told Fijivillage that he received a call around 11.33pm last night and when they arrived at the scene, the house was on fire.

He said their investigation has started and they are working with the Police Forensic Department to determine the cause of fire and the death related to it.
