A 23 year old man, Ilaisa Soisoi will spend the next 5 and half years behind bars after being convicted of robbery with violence and unlawful use of motor vehicle.

Soisoi today pleaded guilty to the charges of stealing a car and using it in a planned robbery.

The court was told that on the night of 30th May 2005, Soisoi stole a car from Victoria Parade and drove it to Moti Street in Samabula and robbed the 57 year old owner of B. Pratap Supermarket.

Soisoi used empty bottles and knives to threaten the cashiers and customers and later fled with cash and items worth $4902.

Magistrate Ajmal Gulab Khan also noted that Soisoi had 13 previous convictions of similar nature.

In mitigation, Soisoi asked for the court's leniency as he has two children and has a heart condition.
