Man in custody in connection with $50 note forgery
Director Economic Crime, Senior Superintendent Ravi Narayan said two more persons have been questioned in regards to the counterfeit notes.
He said police has evidence that a total of 80 $50 believed to be counterfeit were forged with a total of 31 notes recovered in the Western and Southern Division. He said 49 notes remain in circulation and police investigations are still underway.
According to SSP Narayan a $50 fake notes was given at RK & RK Supermarket in Nadi earlier this month however prompt action by police led to the owner of the fake note. He revealed that investigations led to the arrest of two other persons leading to the arrest of the main person processing the notes with the recovery of 7 fake $50 notes.
SSP Narayan is calling on people to be more cautious while dealing with notes and report to police if they are suspicious of any note being fake.
