A 38 year old man from Waileka settlement close to Naiyala High School in Tailevu is remanded in custody after he allegedly burned down a house belonging to his 64 year old uncle after drinking homebrew on Saturday.

Korovou police have confirmed that the man who has been released from prison 3 months ago was convicted for 6 years imprisonment for a similar crime after he burned down a house belonging to the high chief of his village.

It is alleged that he drank homebrew on Saturday before forcing his wife to pour the kerosene on his uncle's house and despite the pleas from his uncle not do so he set fire to the house.

Police said nobody intervened as the suspected allegedly threatened them.

Charges are expected to be laid against him soon.
