Please do not take the law into your own hands.

That is the call from the Fiji Police Force after a 22 year old woman had to be admitted in hospital following an argument with her defacto husband.

Police Assistant Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said that last year coming into this year, there were hardly any reports of domestic violence however following the incident yesterday, they are asking families to let the course of justice take its course.

Inspector Sokomuri said that the incident took place at around 1pm yesterday in Navakai, Nadi when the two were arguing while preparing lunch and as a result the man got hold of a chopper and knifed her on the back of her neck.

The 22 year old de-facto wife is admitted in Lautoka Hospital while the man remains in custody.

Meanwhile, according to the Fiji Women’s Crisis Center, there were a total of 373 cases of domestic violence last year.
