A 57-year-old man charged with indecent assault was today sentenced to 12 months imprisonment by Suva High Court judge Justice Salesi Temo.
The court heard that on 19th April last year, Bili Vilisi of Kalekana settlement indecently assaulted an 8-year-old girl.
Vilisi was initially sentenced to 6 months imprisonment suspended for 18 months after he pleaded guilty to the charges however the state had appealed against the sentence which was allowed by the Suva High Court today.
Judge Justice Salesi Temo said that the suspended sentence is being set aside and sentenced Vilisi to 12 months imprisonment.
