A 24yr old man is expected to appear in court today after being charged with the murder of the 5yr old girl whose body was found floating in Beqa waters last month.

This is the first of the three Southern Division murders where somebody has been charged for the crime.

Deputy Director Police Operations SP Erami Raibe said Police arrested the 24yr old over the weekend and after interrogation, he was charged.

Police had earlier confirmed that the post mortem on the girl showed that she was strangled before being thrown into the sea.

Police investigations continue in relation to the Howell Rd murder where a 34yr old Kindergarden teacher was allegedly strangled to death inside her house with police working on some leads. They say arrests are expected to be made soon.

In another case, no one has been charged in relation to the Toorak murder where a 56yr old woman was also strangled while a number of people have been questioned with no arrests as yet.

Her partly burnt body was found in a cassava patch by a security officer.
