A 35 year old man charged with two counts of obtaining money by false pretence for allegedly taking more than $100,000 was today remanded in custody by the Suva Magistrate court.

It is alleged that Neil Nitya Nand took money from a 69 year old woman on the pretence of building two houses for her.

It is alleged that on one occasion he took $49,000 while on the second occasion he allegedly asked for $61,000.

However no houses were built.

Nand has been remanded in custody and his plea has been deferred as he wished to seek legal representation.
 
Meanwhile, Assistant Police spokesperson, Sergeant Sulino Tevita confirmed that the incident took place in 2008 and the man was arrested on Tuesday.
 
Sergeant Tevita said Police are expected to question him again on other pending cases.
