Police have charged a 26 year old man with attempted rape after he allegedly tried to rape a 53 year old woman at Saweni beach yesterday morning.
Assistant Police Spokesperson, Corporal Suliano Tevita confirms the victim was playing with her 6 year old granddaughter on the beach when the suspect approached her and tried to rape her.
The elderly woman raised the alarm and the suspect fled the scene. The victim's brother and some neighbors chased the man and apprehended him.
The victim received some injuries during the attack.
Meanwhile, Nausori Police have charged five youths for house-breaking who allegedly stole $5000 worth of items from Vunimono Primary school on Saturday night.
Divisional Crime Officer Eastern, ASP Ramesh Chand confirms three youths were arrested on Saturday night while the other two were arrested yesterday by the help from members of the public.
The five who are from a settlement in Nausori broke into the school and stole amplifiers, speakers, books and items from the canteen. Some items have been recovered by Police.
