Police in the North are reiterating to the public that it is against the law to assault a police officer on duty, adding that anyone caught doing so will be taken to task.

Police Spokesperson Northern, Maika Cabealawa said this is after a 31 year old man appeared in the Labasa Magistrate Court yesterday, in a special Court sitting for assaulting a Police Officer.

The alleged incident took place during a drinking party at Salusalu Street in Labasa Town, at around 3am on Thursday when a fight broke out.

The officer then tried to stop the fight, when the Court heard that the accused turned around and allegedly punched him.

The man pleaded not guilty to the charge and will again appear in Court, later this month.

Cabealawa stresses that it is against the law for anyone who assault an officer while on duty.
