The hearing of 22 year old Ravneel Singh charged with impersonating a police officer and indecent assault commenced today in Suva before Magistrate Kaweendra Nayankkara.

The court heard that on 1st Dec last year, at around 11.30 in the morning, the victim of the indecent assault, a class 8 student was at Epworth House in Suva, when the accused approached her and told her that he would take her to the police station for being in town at that time when she should have been in school.

However, he took her into a toilet saying he had to check her school bag and then allegedly indecently assaulted her.

Witnesses called included a police officer who charged Singh, a worker at Jekishan optometrist and the victim who all pointed out the accused in court as the person who was charged, who was at the scene at the time the crime occurred and who allegedly committed the crime.

The case will continue tomorrow at 2pm, where Singh who has chosen to represent himself, will call his only witness.
