Man Jailed For Leaking Exam Content
The court heard that between 21st September and 15th October last year, Anare Bicilio Sailo was engaged in moderating examination papers at the Fiji School of Medicine (FSM) and prior to that examination, he had knowingly disclosed the contents of the draft exam papers to two students who have been expelled from FSM.
After the exam, Associate Professor Bronwen Byrant, who had prepared the drafted questions upon marking the papers, found some irregularities with the past results of the students with the current papers and the answers were similar and quite in depth, which she had not covered in her lectures.
While passing the sentence, Magistrate Amani Rokotuinaviti said that disclosing exam papers is regarded seriously by the legislation and this breached the trust of FSM.
Magistrate Rokotuinaviti said that his actions have led to the loss of integrity of Fiji's education system including FSM.
Sailo pleaded guilty to the charges and in mitigation told the court that he was a first offender, married with four children, the youngest, only 5 weeks.
He was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment to be served concurrently.
