Police have taken a man into custody for allegedly trying to rape 2 teenagers early this morning in Nasinu.

Police Media Liaison Officer Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed two 18-year-old girls hired a taxi from Suva to go to Namadi Heights at 2.45 this morning but instead the driver took them to Nasinu.

The driver than took the taxi to a farm road in Nasinu and stopped at an isolated place. It is alleged the driver than locked the doors and tried to rape the girls.

Sokomuri said one of the girls managed to escape and hurriedly called 919 for help.

Nasinu Police Officers reached the scene within a couple of minutes and arrested the man.

The man is currently being questioned at the Nausori Police Station and is expected to be charged later today.

Police have again reminded parents to be aware of their children’s whereabouts as 2 teenage girls were involved in this case.
