A 35 year old serving prison was handed a six month concurrent sentence after he pleaded guilty one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle in the Suva Magistrates Court.
The court was told that Joeli Volawalu was part of a group of seven men who robbed a businessman in his home and they then fled in the owner’s vehicle which was later found abandoned in Nanuku settlement, Vatuwaqa.
As there was insufficient evidence to charge Volawalu with robbery with violence, he was charged with the lesser offence of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and was sentenced to six months imprisonment to be served concurrently with his current term.
Volawalu will remain behind bars until 2014.
