Suva High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar today sentenced a 44yr old man to six months imprisonment as he was found guilty of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.

The court heard that police raided the house of Tomasi Raibe Ravugati on 21st April this year and found him sitting infront of his house wrapping the 18.3 grams of dried leaves.

In mitigation he told the court that he was 44yrs old, married with no children. He also told the court that he was looking after his niece and has started a business of scrap metal collection.

However, the court noted that he had 47 previous convictions which were 10 yrs old and seven previous convictions in the last five years which are for being in possession of dangerous drugs for which he was imprisoned.

Judge Goundar said that Ravugati did not reform himself and the sentences imposed on him have not deterred him from committing further offences.
