Man Charged With Murder
The suspect, who is from a settlement in Colo-I-Suva, was charged with murder and two counts of robbery with violence last night.
He is also alleged to have robbed a taxi driver soon after robbing Sarojni Lata and her husband and throwing a stone at their delivery vehicle.
He will appear in the Nasinu Magistrates Court this morning.
The deceased and her husband, who own a bakery in Nakasi, were delivering bread to villagers in Colo-I-Suva when the suspect appeared from nearby bush and grabbed the bag containing money.
Lata's husband gave chase and the robber fled into the bush, however, he returned with a big stone and threw it at the delivery van. The stone hit Lata, who was sitting inside.
She sustained serious head injuries and later passed away at the CWM hospital. A post mortem report revealed that she died of serious head injuries.
