Police have laid charges against a man for allegedly stabbing his 38-year-old wife to death over the weekend.

The man, who is a cane-cutter, has been charged with one count of murder and will appear in the Labasa Magistrates Court this afternoon.

He is alleged to have stabbed his wife Meena Wati with a kitchen knife after a domestic dispute late Friday afternoon.

Wati's mutilated body was discovered by her 14-year-old son in the bush.

A post mortem conducted revealed that Wati died of severe blood loss and stab wounds sustained to the intestine and other parts of the body.
