Police have charged a remand prisoner for setting fire inside the Labasa Police station remand cell yesterday.
Divisional Crime Officer Norther ASP Luke Rawalai confirms the man got hold of a box of matches and lit a mattress in their remand cell.
The two were in the cell when they lit the mattress.
Police are now trying to determine if one of their Police officers had provided the inmates with the matches.
Quick action by the National Fire Authority prevented the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
The man appears in Labasa Magistrates court on Monday.
