Labasa Police have taken a 55-year-old man into custody for allegedly printing fake notes and cashing it into change.

Divisional Crime Officer Northern, ASP Luke Rawalai confirmed that the man was caught when he was trying to convert a $20 fake note to coins at a service station in Labasa yesterday afternoon.

The matter was reported to Police and upon questioning the man revealed that he has a printer at home which he has used to print fake $20 notes.

Police are now trying to establish how many fake notes were printed and distributed in Labasa.

The fake note has been sent to Suva for examination and the man is expected to be charged later today.
