A man appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon charged with the allegedly murdering his 50 year old mother last week.

Sanjay Stanely Sudhakar's case has been transferred to the High Court.

Magistrate Anjula Wati refused Sudhakar's application for bail due to the seriousness of the crime. Sudhakar said he needs to be released to prepare for his case.

Magsitrate Wati refused bail on the grounds of the seriousness of the crime. The plea has been deferred to the High Court on May 23rd and a decision will then be made on bail.

Samabula Police have confirmed that the charges were laid after the second post mortem. The Post mortem conducted earlier revealed that the woman died of a heart-attack.

The Police detectives and Forensic officers visited the scene again and found a broken torch and some other items following which a second post moterm was requested.

The suspect confessed to police that he allegedly strangled his mother and also hit her on the head with a torch following a dispute over money.

The deceased was found inside her bedroom with head injuries.
