Make wise decisions during school break
Youth Project Officer Sister Sulueti Duvaga made the comments as they continue to monitor teenage pregnancies around the country.
Duvaga added that youths tend to go along with their peers and having fun especially at parties, however they do not realize the impact of their actions.
Duvaga revealed that while they have recorded close to 1,000 teenage pregnancies for 2009, stats show that in 2008, there were a total of 1186 young girls giving birth.
She added that parents should remember that the most common reason for young girls getting pregnant is the fact that they were drunk.
This year, the Health Ministry has adopted the stand of Abstinence.
Meanwhile following recent spates of drowning and accidents in the country, the Fiji Police Force has urged parents to monitor the movements of their children during the two weeks break.
Assistant Police Spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said parents need to keep an out eye out on their children be it in the urban or rural area.
