The Permanent Secretary for Industry and Trade said while the Government is doing its part, the car industry also needs to be competitive as far as pricing and the availability of vehicles is concerned.
While launching the brand new model of Toyota Yaris at Asco Motors today, Saheen Ali said in 2010, the Government announced the reduction of import duties for smaller engine vehicles from 32 percent to 15 percent.
Ali said this was further complimented in the 2012 National Budget where vehicles with less than 2,500cc engine capacity were also reduced to 15 percent.
He said it is one of Government’s priorities to ensure that affordable and quality vehicles are available to all Fijians.
Meanwhile, Asco Motors Acting CEO Jai Kumar said the vehicle has been designed with the latest technology to assist people to pursue a more comfortable lifestyle.
