Major road works start this week
A team from the Works and Transport Ministry has visited the areas mostly in the interior parts on Vanua Levu where people have been waiting for road upgrades for the last two years.
Works Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said this is one of their major projects for this year as most people in the interior of Vanua Levu have been deprived of bus services due to bad road conditions.
Meanwhile, the Works Ministry has reached an agreement with the Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) in relation to payments for the widening of the Nokonoko Road, Laucala Beach.
Work on widening the road commenced early last year, however until now the work has not been completed with motorists left with bad road conditions.
Waqainabete has asked the motorists to bare with them.
A total of $280 million was allocated for the Ministry of Works, Transport and Public Utilities in this year's National Budget.
