The Nadi International airport will undergo a major infrastructure and communications upgrade next year estimated at $70 million.

AFL Chairman Digby Bossley confirmed this after presenting the company's dividend of $317,780 to the Interim Minister for Public Enterprises Poseci Bune for its 2006 performance.

Bossley said the costs for major upgrading works at Nadi International Airport will be partially paid by the Company and the rest will be borrowed from some commercial lenders.

He adds the upgrade projects are necessary due to the compliance to safety standards mandated by CAAFI to meet International standards. The plans also include a major upgrade at the Savusavu airport estimated at around $4.5 million and the construction of the Rotuma airstrip in March next year costing around $1 million to AFL.
