A major manhunt is underway for five men who were involved in a robbery at the Dee Cees bus company office in Vatuwaqa yesterday afternoon.

The five armed with cane knives and broken beer bottles stormed into the office and attacked a 53 year old clerk who was preparing the weekend's takings.

The five allegedly hacked the clerk with the cane knife many times on his head and parts of his body.

The 53 year old clerk sustained severe injuries and is currently unconscious and admitted at the Suva Private hospital.

Dee Cees Director Sailas Mohan said the thieves took a bag containing a substantial amount of cash which was income from 80 buses for last Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday's services.

The robbers fled in a car, which was later found abandoned in Vatuwaqa.

Police are calling on the public for more information.
