Major land reforms are expected to be implemented within the next few months which will see opportunities for landowners to lease their native land for commercial agriculture farming.
Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama stressed that this move will benefit the landowners, incoming tenants and the country as a whole.
He also reiterated that the reforms will not result in the change in the ownership of the resources.
Bainimarama also said that while the devaluation of the Fiji dollar has resulted in an improvement of our foreign reserves, more work needs to be done to reduce our consumption of imported items and increase our exports.
Meanwhile, Bainimarama has called on the international community and development partners to engage with Fiji because it is now a reality that the country will go to the polls in 2014.
He revealed yesterday that work on Fiji's new constitution will begin in the year 2012, and said this will see major changes to the electoral system by 2013 with the race based system to be eliminated.
