Major breakthrough for Fiji
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has confirmed from China that he has invited the Yiwu Mayor to bring a delegation to Fiji to explore investment opportunities.
The Mayor in return offered the Fiji government shop space in the famous Yiwu international markets for Fiji to use as an exhibition hall for Fiji products and investment opportunities.
Fiji Ambassador to China, Sir James Ah Koy will now have further discussions with the Yiwu Mayor on the setting up of the shop space offered.
It has also been confirmed that the Mayor of Yiwu City boasting the largest international market in the world has expressed his interest in visiting Fiji soon.
Commodore Bainimarama said this is a first for the Pacific and has indicated a further strengthening of ties between China and Fiji. He said this further reiterates his earlier statement that Fiji is open to engagement with those who choose to understand Fiji and assist it in moving towards the 2014 elections.
Meanwhile Commodore Bainimarama said a China based company will definitely set up a cement factory in Fiji soon.
Speaking to Fijivillage from China, Commodore Bainimarama said he has already visited the company's operations in China and the new company will force cement prices to go down in Fiji.
Commodore Bainimarama said the government needs to think about majority of the people in the country and having monopolies is not the answer as lack of competition will only result in prices to be dictated by a few.
He said shareholders getting returns from company investment is one issue but the whole picture needs to be looked at.
Commodore Bainimarama is continuing his tour in China and is expected to return to Fiji tomorrow.
