Consumers can breathe a sigh of relief as the interim cabinet has today endorsed a reduction in the duty on fuel prices effective from this Friday.
Cabinet has approved that effective from Friday the duty on diesel will decrease by 50 percent from 18 cents to 9 cents per liter, the duty on motor spirits will decrease by 23 percent from 44 cents to 34 cents per liter while the duty on pre-mix outboard fuel will decrease from 27 cents to 17 cents per liter.
Acting Interim Prime Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau confirmed to Fijivillage that the reduction in duty on outboard fuel, diesel and motor spirits will be for the next three months until another review is undertaken.
Cabinet has also endorsed that the fuel rebate will be realigned so it is online with the changes announced to ensure that the quantum of duty concessions is not reduced.
The Prices and Incomes Board is currently working out what the new pump prices for these fuels will be from Friday.
