Fiji's main port in Suva is to get a major overhaul.

In an interview with Radio Australia, Fiji Ports Corporation's Chief Executive Officer Captain Chris Marshall said that the current container facility at King’s Wharf will be moved to newly reclaimed land at Walu Bay and expanded significantly.

He added that once it is completed, the old wharf will be extended and upgraded into a state of the art cruise liner facility with a shopping complex.

It will be along similar lines to Sydney's Darling Harbour.

During the construction, the project is expected to create around 1500 jobs and result in an investment of 520M FJD.
