After weeks of preparation, the main Diwali celebration will start in the next hour where Hindus around the country will offer their prayers to goddess Lakshmi.
According to Shri Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, the prayer this evening will, in return bless people with wealth and good health for the coming year.
Sabha's Secretary, Vijen Prakash said following the prayers, people will light their compounds with Diya's and candles to get rid of darkness which means the win of good over evil.
While we all get in the celebration mood and enjoy Diwali with our family members, there are some unfortunate ones who are based at Senior Citizens home and are missing their family members today.
Fijivillage visited the Samabula Senior Citizens home this morning and spoke to some elderly citizens.
52 year old, Budh Mati said they had activities arranged for them on Tuesday to mark Diwali celebrations.
80 year old Bulou Vere said she was impressed with the sweets they received.
And, 71 year old Apisalome Waqanisau who hails from Tovu, Totoya Lau said Diwali is a festival that he always looks forward for.
The residents of the home will be given an extra Diwali treat with a tour of Suva to take a look at Diwali lights.
Meanwhile Diwali celebrations in other parts of the country are taking different shapes and forms.
For former Labasa resident Mohini Lata she said as her family in Labasa prepares for Diwali not being able to celebrate Diwali with her family is hard but she considers herself fortunate as there are less fortunate people who will miss out on this year's celebrations.
She added she misses the sense of sharing the celebration with others in her community.
