The Tui Macuata has requested the people of Macuata to plant more vegetables and root crops instead of forking out money to buy these items as prices of food items continue to go up.
Ratu Aisea Katonivere said that many people tend to buy tinned fish instead of going out to sea and catching fresh fish. He has urged members in his province to do backyard gardening.
He said he is also advising them on how to better utilization of their land would ensure that they do not face difficulties in future.
Meanwhile, those interested in farming rice should take advantage of the trying times the country is currently facing with regards to the worldwide shortage of Rice and plant rice.
Rewa Rice chairman Hari Pal Singh said the locally produced rice industry faced an increase in demand following the shortage in Supermarkets and adds they had had to cope with this demand.
