The Tui Macuata believes that allowing only the traditionally installed chiefs from the various Vanua to become members of the Great Council of Chiefs will only strengthen the Chiefly body.
As the 14 provinces around the country prepare to meet and discuss the changes to the GCC composition and the new criteria set for members, Ratu Aisea Katonivere told Village news that such moves will also strengthen the individual Vanua.
Ratu Aisea also believes that setting such a criteria could end the numerous disputes over Chiefly titles within the individual Vanua.
The Tui Macuata said the Macuata Provincial Council will soon meet where the Province will take an official stance on the matter.
Meanwhile, the GCC Review Committee continues its consultations on the changes in criteria to the GCC. The changes have already been rejected by the Naitasiri Provincial Council which met in Vunidawa yesterday while other Provinces are yet to meet and discuss the matter.
