Macuata is the first province to nominate three representatives to the Great Council of Chiefs meeting after the GCC Review Taskforce made their presentations in Labasa this morning.

GCC Taskforce chairman Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo confirmed that the GCC members include the Tui Macuata Ratu Aisea Katonivere, Tui Labasa  Adi Salanieta Qomate and Turaga Sauvou Udu Ratu Emori Waqanivalu.

Nawalowalo added that he was pleased with the support from Macuata during the Bose Vanua today after they accepted the new GCC mandate promulgation 2008.

The chairman said that Macuata has no political agenda, unlike other provinces who have been misguided by the political affiliation of some of their chiefs.

Meanwhile, the Tui Macuata Ratu Aisea Katonivere said it was time Fiji moved on and the chiefs stressed at the Bose Vanua today that Fiji should go to the polls next year.

The only other province that has accepted the new GCC promulgation is Serua. However, they said at their meeting last month that they could not nominate any of the chiefs to be part of the GCC as none had been traditionally installed.

The Bose Ni Vanua of Tailevu, on the other hand, has stressed that they want the ousted GCC members for Tailevu to be reappointed. They also rejected the GCC promulgation. The three members for Tailevu are Ratu Epenisa Cakobau, Ratu Timoci Vesikula and Ratu Semi Seruvakula.

The other provinces that have rejected the GCC promulgation are Lomaiviti, Ra, Naitasiri, Rewa, Namosi, Cakaudrove and Nadroga.

The Bose Vanua of Ba has decided to wait for the court decision on the case filed against the interim government for sacking the GCC members and implementing a new GCC promulgation. Ba has not taken any decision to accept or reject the GCC promulgation as yet.

The provinces which remain to make their decisions are Kadavu, Lau and Bua.
