There are now revelations that the special meeting of the Melanesian Spearhead Group planned to be held in Solomon Islands on Monday was suspended indefinitely as the hosts wanted more time to consider the proposed hand over of the chairmanship.

According to Pacnews the host, the Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Danny Philip, wants more time to consider the proposed plan to hand over the chairmanship from Vanuatu to Fiji via Solomon Islands.

The special meeting was originally called to reconcile Vanuatu and Fiji over the MSG chairmanship.

PacNews said that the meeting is now expected to be held next month.

Meanwhile, Philip is expected to hold a meeting with Fiji Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama following the indefinite suspension of the MSG special meeting.

Assistant Secretary of the Pacific Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, John Wasi told Fijivillage news that the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands Danny Philips has put the meeting on hold.

According to Radio Australia, Phillips would like to continue with talks with Fiji.
