The Solomon Islands government has confirmed that next week's planned special meeting of Melanesian Spearhead Group leaders has been postponed indefinitely.

The special leaders meeting had been scheduled for Monday in Honiara in an effort to resolve the impasse over whether Fiji will take over as MSG chair.

Assistant Secretary of the Pacific Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, John Wasi said that the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands Danny Philips has put the meeting on hold.

The press secretary to the Solomons Prime Minister, Alfred Sasako said the PM would like to ensure that dialogue with Fiji continues, and at the same time they want to ensure that other members of the MSG body also are kept abreast with what is happening.
