Morris Hedstrom's Supermarkets carried out a routine inventory check of their stocks last night as they try and verify claims by the Ministry of Trade and Industry which alleged that the major supermarket chain is selling expired and damaged products.
Carpenters Fiji Limited Group CEO Freddy Keshwan confirmed to Fijivillage news that they did not find any expired or damaged products as alleged and they are now trying to meet with Ministry officials to ascertain where they got such information.
The Department of fair Trade investigations also alleged that the MH retail company is allegedly engaged in inappropriate trade practices by misusing its market power and is forcing suppliers into oppressive trade terms, such as demanding payment for shelf space, demanding unreasonable rebates and misusing its market share to force suppliers and manufacturers into unreasonable credit terms.
Keshwan said charging fees for the best space on supermarket shelves is a normal practice and they are not engaged in any unfair trade practices as alleged.
Carpenters Fiji Limited and Ministry of Trade officials are expected to meet soon to discuss these issues.
