Hurricanes assistant coach Alama Ieremia said the loss of centre and captain Conrad Smith is a major blow as they try to overcome what he describes as their worst performance of the season.
The Hurricanes were thumped 48-14 by the Bulls last weekend and lost Smith after he suffered a concussion.
The Hurricanes have slipped to 11th in the standings and another loss to the Cheetahs tomorrow morning will all but end their playoff hopes.
The Hurricanes will play the Cheetahs at 5:10am tomorrow.
Meanwhile, in tonight’s clash, the Chiefs will take on the Force at 7:35pm while the Reds host the Sharks at 9:40pm.
