Lomaloma Rep Surprised at Lau’s Support
Speaking to Fijivillage, Pita Foiakau said in the meeting the tikina reps were not given any time to give their view on the Charter and the GCC promulgation as they only heard the presentation from the NCBBF group and the GCC review team.
Foiakau said since there is no Peoples Charter at the moment they should have been given time to go back and relay the message to the people in the islands to give their views before they make a decision.
He added the tikina of Matuku, Moala, Totoya and Lomaloma did not support the People's Charter and their views were not considered by the Chairman.
Foiakau also raised his concern on the way the meeting was conducted when members of the Lau Province needed identification cards to be part of the meeting.
He adds those who were stopped from entering the meeting were the Turaga ni koro and the people from the various villages in Lau, who really are the ones who are responsible for carrying out the call of the province.
Lau provincial council chairman Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara stated at a press conference last night after the Provincial council meeting that Lau has fully supported the People's Charter and the GCC Regulations Promulgations 2008.
